    Byron Wear's fatal gaffe

    Byron Wear was running for mayor when he state that he graduated from SDSU. A reporter from the San Diego Union-Tribune happened to know that Wear was widely known to have dropped out of SDSU to take up a distinguished career as a lifeguard before entering politics. So the reporter asked Wear if he'd like to change his story. GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY, Wear stuck to his story and was humiliated out of the running for mayor of San Diego.
